The cottages have been in our family for five generations. Earle and Caroline Parker (the 1st generation) bought the Big Cottage 75 years ago, in 1944, and the Little Cottage came into the family in 1971 to make room for future great-grandchildren (and now great-great-grandchildren). A family trust was set up by Lib Andrews (the 2nd generation) in 1991 to extend ownership and management to the families of each of her three children. There are presently a total of eleven trust shareholders, spanning the 3rd and 4th generations, who jointly manage the property. Most of the general cottage maintenance and upkeep tasks have been performed through the years by our immediate and extended family and friends, some of whom are exceptionally talented while others stick to painting (endless painting!), or weeding, or understandably prefer sunbathing over manual labor. We work hard to keep the property in good condition for our family and our renters. One can’t help but feel the spirit of generations of family and friends making memories within the cottages' pine board walls… and down the lawn, across the rocks, on the beach, and in the ocean. We continue to gather for one to two weeks a summer, as many of the twenty-six who can make it, to be together and create new Boothbay traditions in this special place.
